Registry-style ceremonies by civil celebrants, not a government registry office. No fuss, no frills, no wedding. Just paperwork.

Frequently Asked Questions

Plain-English answers about getting married with us.

Are you a government registry office?

No. We are private marriage celebrants providing a registry-style service for couples who want a simple, paperwork-only marriage in Darwin.

How do we get started?

Click the Get Married link, fill out the booking form, and pay the fee. After that, you prepare your Notice of Intended Marriage and send your paperwork through.

When is our date confirmed?

Once we receive the paperwork and confirm it is all in order. The date, time and place depend on when the NOIM and supporting documents are received and on our availability.

How far ahead do we need to lodge the NOIM?

Your NOIM must normally be given to the celebrant at least one calendar month before the marriage and no more than 18 months before it.

Can the NOIM be witnessed remotely?

Yes, in some situations. Current federal rules allow remote NOIM witnessing by audio-visual link, but the ceremony itself still happens in person and the witness rules depend on where you are.

Do we need to meet the celebrant in person before the marriage?

Yes. Current federal rules require an authorised celebrant to meet separately and in person with each party before the marriage is solemnised.

Can we get married online or by proxy?

No. The marriage must happen in person with both parties, the celebrant, and two adult witnesses physically present.

Do we need two witnesses?

Yes. Australian marriage law requires two witnesses who are each at least 18 years old and able to understand what is happening.

What documents do we need?

You usually need evidence of your date and place of birth, photo ID, and proof that any previous marriage has ended. If documents are not in English, translations may be needed.

Do we need to be Australian citizens?

No. There is no general citizenship or residency requirement to get married in Australia.

Is this a wedding service?

No. This service is for couples who simply want to get married. It is short, simple, and focused on the legal paperwork.

What if we want a bigger ceremony or an elopement?

For a full ceremony, use Josh Withers. For an elopement package, use The Elopement Collective.
